That’s right- it is time for the HDA to move out on its own. Until now, the Hobby Distiller’s Association was a division under Brewhaus. It was set up this way originally to avoid the costs of setting up the non-profit corporation and to avoid the restrictions of lobbying that comes along with being certain types of non-profit organizations.
With the recent ruling on our lawsuit, and the hopes that it will remain intact even if the government does appeal, we feel that it is now time to set up as a separate entity. We expect the association to take on an even greater leadership role in the hobby distilling industry, and as such have many plans to grow the strength of the HDA so that we can continue the fight to legalize hobby distilling throughout the United States. If the ruling holds, we intend for it to be just the first step.
So, our paperwork is in the process of being completed, and we hope to be fully operating as a non-profit organization by the end of the month!
More to come as the filing progresses…
