Texas- We Need Your Help!

Our Bill was filed on January 30, 2025, but it has not progressed in two months.  We need everyone to reach out to their state representatives and tell them that you want them to back our bill, and finally expand the hobby of home beer and wine making to include home hobby distilling!  We have managed to get it this far, but we now need numbers to see this get across the finish line.

To find who your Texas state representative is you can go to:

Find My Representative

You are looking for your Texas House Representative, as this is a state Bill.  Tell them that you want them to back Texas Bill HB2278, and you want them to help get the bill moved through the process and passed this legislative session.

Remember, this Texas legislative session only runs until June 2, 2025, so time is starting to be of concern.  If you want the right to distill legally at home for hobby purposes, then reach out to your representative now!

To track the Bill’s progress go to HB2278.

Let’s get this done, Texas!

What’s the status of the Federal Government’s appeal to the 9th Circuit ruling on home distilling? And are there any current bills to reverse federal laws prohibiting hobby distilling?

    • HDA says:

The appeal is in the 5th Circuit. There is no update on the appeal at the moment, but as soon as there is movement we will definitely post about it.

There are not currently any bills at the federal level to allow for home hobby distilling, but at least we currently have a path to legal home distilling, even if it is not treating us equally with home beer and wine makers.

While I’m not a member, I’ve been following your efforts. Thank you. I don’t know if you have seen it, but your bill came out of committee today. Public comments are scheduled for April 15th.

    • HDA says:

The bill is not actually out of committee. This is a committee process, but it does mean that our bill is getting through the process! We will be there to represent the HDA on the 15th, and will report back with how things go. It is a public hearing, so others can come out, as well, if you are in the area and have the ability.
